Playing soccer in college is an incredible aspiration, and a realistic one for many. Our college program is intended to provide information, support and guidance for those highly motivated players.

Recruiting isn’t just about talent—it’s about being seen, being committed to the process, and, most importantly finding the school and soccer program that is the RIGHT FIT for you. No one can do recruiting for you, while exposure at events can be a very valuable part of the process, taking ownership is the most important thing you can do. Start digging into the journey here.
It’s About Fit, Not Just Prestige
The best program is one where you’ll grow, play, and thrive on and off the field. Making a decision on where you want to go to school and what you want that to look like is just as important as which level or division. There are options for all players across the college spectrum – DI DII, DII, NAIA, NJCAA. Talk with your coach or one of our staff listed below on how to begin. The College Player Pathway program has a free planning tool that can also help you get started.
Take Active Ownership Over the Recruiting Process
Most players are identified between sophomore and senior year, depending on what level of play you are pursuing. While the timing is slightly different between boys and girls, the process is the same. Once you have done your research on fit, and are committed to the process, building out a profile (in BYGA or using the below form) and getting in front of coaches by sending email with video, attending ID camps or participating in showcases is important. You can find a college guide in the links below.
Ask for Help
Your coach and the Pacific FC staff is excited to walk with you on this process and help you be successful. If you need another level of help, there are professional companies who do work with aspiring players. One we like is Sports Recruiting USA, you can also find their link below and set up a time to talk with them.
Be Consistent, On and Off the Field
Next to your soccer skills, grades are the most important tool you have in your recruitment arsenal. Good academics opens the door for scholarship opportunities that frankly rarely exist for players without good grades. Pursuing this level of play is another big step in your commitment to the game, and to the steps you need to take. It will require focus and determination to build your skills and train outside of practices, stay focused in the classroom, pay attention to your physical well being – nutrition, sleep and injury resiliency, while also embracing the mental effort it will take. At the end is a huge reward to jump in, ask questions and enjoy your quest for something special
Putting in the work both on the field, and in the classroom, is non-negotiable for players looking to play at the next level. Also important is to begin to understand your financial position. Here are some tips, references and tools.
Get Extra Support with Skills, Strength and Speed
Whether on your own at home, or with a private trainer, getting touches on the ball everyday and working to maximize your physical ability will be critical to your success in college. You can use Anytime soccer for self paced ball work, or join one of our many camps and clinics. There are also private trainers you can hire. Here are links to private skills trainers and to some places for players to get extra help in the gym.
Classroom and Social
Colleges want high quality student athletes to represent their school. Use the tools at your school to get whatever help you need to have success in the classroom. Higher GPA means the potential for more scholarships and grants. Also critical is the manage your social media, keeping everything clean and presentable. Remember that your future college coach is going to look at your socials
Financial Aid
All colleges will use the FAFSA form to determine your families financial status and eligibility for financial aid.
Coaches want great players who are great people, good students, and will represent their program well. Who you are matters and you want to show multiple parts of what you can bring to a program. We can help you build your communication strategy around three key elements:
1. A description of who you are through a player profile. BYGA has a built in profile you can you and share via QR Code, or you can use the player profile template below
2. The Video story of the player you are. Every initial communication with a coach should be accompanied by a video. Use the guide below to learn how to put your best highlight reel together.
3. Your professionalism and commitment to the process. Use the email templates we have to help you communicate effectively with prospective coaches at each step in the process.
Here are additional resources to help you on your journey—whether you’re just starting to think about college soccer or already building your highlight reel. These tools might help guide, support, and simplify the process for both players and parents.
